Purchasing a Puppy

Hi LYKs, after years of consideration and parents' approval, I have finally decided to home a puppy in the family. Please chip in your precious advices in regards to this decision for I'll be a first time dog owner with no past experiences. Thanks!

No franchised pet stores from puppy mills... Hence, any recommended local Toy Poodle breeders?

Most importantly, I came across this local pet store called "Pets Wonderland" in Empire Mall, Richmond. They seem very decent and responsible. Anyone bought puppies from them in the past? Comments/concerns bout their reputations??

Again, many, many thanks!

Thanks! and your maltese is sooooo cute!

Do you know where they get their puppies and such? Local breeders as they claim?

Yes, tons of responsibilities and care for the coming decade or two, but I think it'll be all worth it.

My little boy was adopted (purchased) from Pet Wonderland. He is almost 6 months old now.
You can ask us questions here as I owned 3 dogs before... All my family members are dog lovers.

And while I was in the store, I was playing with this adorable maltese. She's around 5 plus months old and possibly a sibling of your puppy? I so wanted to take her home; she was so attachy and 'deh'. Always climbing up for hugs.

I actually did look into SPCA few days ago, but their toy poodles were all fairly old, ranging from 7-12 only.. and their other dogs are usually huge, which my house cannot hold (neither can I handle).

Thank you all for the good info!

Yeah, I will for sure avoid those popular franchised pet stores due to the puppy mill concern. That's why I opened this thread in regards to Pets Wonderland (making sure they won't be like those usual pet stores where good breeders would never sell their good pups to).

I tried looking for local toy poodle breeders, but none were found... and I also tried all the previous listed websites in the past 2 weeks or so but they rarely have anything I want.

toy poodles are sooooo cute.

And maltese would be my other choice; they're also duper adorable.

Tough decision.. lol

吳孟達: How did you keep your maltese's face so white and clean? Are the tearing eyes a large concern? Can you maintain his face white and clean all the time?

maybe you info is more correct, I had my guess because when I bought my dog, the breeder needed us you sign a contract for no reselling the purchased dog, and the dog has to be neutered. Maybe diffe ...

Same concerns/inquiries over here. And since there are no well known local Toy Poodle breeders in town (not according to the internet anyway..), how can I tell if a particular so called 'breeder' is a good breeder? I mean.. basically anyone can be a 'breeder' on kijiji.ca/buysell.ca right?

Pets Wonderland promises 1 year of health warranty so that was kind of good?

I did a lot of researches on web and ended up with the followings:

1) Dog Food - we bought the one which is grain free
2) A facial scrub product supposed to clean his face every 2 days or daily
3) Bo ...

Nice! Thanks, will definitely keep that in mind if I do get the Maltese.
