Is the data plan a MUST for the 3GS?

TOP

An update for LYKs who are interested in purchasing the 3GS:

I purchased mine today (thru *611)~ expected delivery before July 9th but should be able to get it at my door by the coming Friday.

Here's the deal I got (you'll need to speak to the retention department):

$25 retention plan that includes:
- 200 daytime minutes
- unlimited evenings and weekends
- unlimited fido/fido
- voicemails
- call/name displays
- 2500 sms
Plus $30 6GB Data Plan
- no system access fee
- no 911 fee

Total $55 plus tax per month. Not a huge price difference from the plan I had been using since it was $49.XX plus tax per month without data.

And yes, I got to use my $99.40 Fido Dollars towards my $199 16GB 3GS Iphone

Hope this helps.

Do you have to get the data plan in order to buy the iphone 3gs?

Yes, and the data plan has a contract of its own for 3 years. If I were to terminate it before it expires, I think I have to pay $5 a month up to $100 until the end of my contract. Which is not too bad I guess? The 3G one only had a $50 penalty tho I believe...

retention plan == over-the-phone only plan that offered to you so you would stay with their network.

exactly~ just call the regular *611 number and tell them nicely that you're in the state of considering either to stay or to leave fido (I had 6 months of contract left before renewing). Then, ask them if they could transfer you to the cancellation/retention department (because the regular CSRs have no authorities to give you anything special). I think the plan I got would probably be your best bet if you're looking into data plans (unless you don't need call displays and voicemails and text messages, and fido-fido, then I think there was a cheaper retention plan for $17.50)

cheaper retention plan for $17.50?? i think that's the same one before they change the fido new plan system..

I'm not exactly sure cus I didn't look into fido plans before this, but knowing that I cannot live without call display, voicemails, and sms, the plan did not interest me at all.

one would think so; doesn't hurt to try i guess? can always keep your original plan if improvements are negative.

So do I dial *611 and asked for retention department directly?
Nam 發表於 2009-6-22 16:59

yes, or simply say, "i'm considering cancelling my plan. can you transfer me to the rentention department?"
