x2. Always what I want to point out. Double standards and hypocrite is the modous operandi when it comes to Western criticism against China. The Western world is not on that much more of a higher moral ground. And why did China have religious freedom day 1 anyways? Why suddenly come out to point out this fact?

I say human nature, and hence extending to societies and countries as a whole, is filled with nasty sides. Key is to understand it and work around it, not just finger pointing. Poking at another will only result in retaliatory poking in return. That's what Vatican just got themselves into.

Besides, the problem, as state by the Chinese statement with Vatican, is not so much that there are bad apples, but their default action is to cover-up. Kinda like North American police, instead of rooting out the bad apples and hang them out to dry, they watch each other's back, which indirectly just encourages these type of behavior... It's a systemic problem, it's Vatican's problem, not just individual priests, etc.

China's always morally corrupt, innertly corrupt with a lot of twisted politics and policies. Between the lines I don't think they really deny any of that anyways (they have to keep up their PR talk tho of course). I think some in the structure realizes that and probably is putting in the effort to slowly instigate change.

China's rebuttal to Vatican was more to point out Vatican's double standard, not criticizing the fact that Vatican is also corrupt. When there's power discrepency there's going to be corruption of some sort, especially a loosely checked and balanced organization like the Cathlic Church and CCP. Even god can't do crap about human nature, cuz he made ppl that way LOL. At least China realizes their corruption, albeit lacking the critical political will for rapid changes. I think the Church still thinks their structure is fine and they have the moral high ground and god on their side or something.... They don't even realize that they are also corrupt as an orgnaization...
