Hmm... being proud of oneself and one's origin is nice.... but when it went overboard, that's arrogance.
I am just amazed at the speed where the conclusion was reached that the Canadian reporter was a 井中之蛙. I'd personally give the benefit of doubt to the Canadian reporter, and think that he/she was just being 客氣. I find the elevator in the CN tower to be very fast and quiet too, despite being a honger. In fact, I find infrastructure in China to be more amazing than a lot of places in HK. Newly built stuff will always be better, I won't be surprised if the Canadian reporter just happened to visit a newly implemented/renovated elevator in HK. North American infrastructure have always been much older, just beacuse it have been developed much earlier. If it works, why fix it? In comparison, China's infrastructure is very new. Am I supposed to be called a 井中之蛙 just because I find the new train/building/bridge/etc in China to be awesome?
HK infrastructures have always been world class, I'm not denying that. But attacking someone whose might just have been humble, sterotyping Canadians in general, and in the process to self inflate one's ego, is quite arrogant. This is not the first time I've read articles from Singtao to be self inflating and putting down other nationalities, especially local Canadians. I simply find it disgusting and disappointing. As Chinese, I don't know where our virtue of humbleness have went after all these years of rapid ascension in the world stage (can't deny that I also am an offender sometimes). However as a majorly published newspaper, it's just unacceptable. I guess we have learned nothing about multi-culturalism after all these years in Canada, and that's just sad. |
