big clear moon shot, but no sure about the bottom black part is necessary or not.
anyway, belated happy moon-fest.

Hmm... I don't think I've ever posted a photo anywhere without keeping the 35mm film/DSLR aspect ratio (roughly 2:3, 4x6, whatever you call it). I originally taken the photo with the moon in the center. Of course, even with 400mm on a crop body it's very very small, so I went ahead to figure out how I want to crop it. In the end, I opt for a portrait orientation and to put the moon near the top of the picture. I wanted the empty black to be at the bottom to give a feeling that the moon is 'high above', as it really is in real anyways.
The real fault is I should've did it on Friday when there were thin traces of clouds, or on Saturday when the moon was actually fuller, rather than on Sunday... but were quite busy on both those nights so I couldn't get around to shoot the moon till Sunday...
Another thing I found tho, is that my tripod/ball head setup can't really take a small white with 2x extender, on a high uptilt stably... the creep after locking down is over half a frame at 400mm..... |
