ha..almost everyone i know nowadays starts their baby with rice cereal..and all around 4 months too
it seems most doctors nowadays suggest babies to start solids earlier and earlier...

we were given to okay at 4 months but we waited until 5 months too.
we started with rice cereal and then pureed carrots, peas
later we introduced fruits (fresh and pureed)

you might want to start with just one tablespoon cereal + lotsa milk for the first time
see what the reaction is..and make it VERY watery because your baby won't know how to swallow correctly yet
feed this for a few days and see if your baby has any reaction to it..

if you check online, most websites and books will suggest you to introduce a new food for at least 4 to 5 days before introducing something else to make sure your baby doesn't have a reaction to it

also, once a baby starts baby food, they might get constipated easily...my son is fine with most foods EXCEPT rice. even congee makes him constipated..so we have to add veggies and prune to rice so he won't have a problem pooping.

also, remember for the first year of baby's life, milk is the most important meal. so try to supplement with cereal, not replace milk with baby food.

good luck and have fun!

a mini blender/food processor that works well is the one from zellers...there are no speeds or anything but it's blade is quite sharp and its small enough just great for baby food. i think it was only $10!

if you are not going to make A lot of baby food, just get something simple and cheap..and quite portable too

btw, this one is quite easy to clean compared to the vertical blenders..the blade can be removed from the container to be rinsed
