I asked before I had my baby too...
there are many of these companies listed in the TV book issued by Fairchild...
you can choose from HK style, TW style and CH style 陪月 because each will use different ingredients and different foods

HK style is ginger+vinegar
TW style is rice vinegar, rice wine + sesame oil
CH style is mostly rice wine

minimum 4 hours a day, about $15/hour
plus $400 commission to the company who suggests the person to you...
and then about $1000 for the food/groceries
so probably around $3000 a month

in the end, I didn't hire them
i ended up ordering just the meal service for $2700/month
they delivery once a day in the morning, 2 bowls of chinese herb soups, 4 desserts, 2 rice, 7 dishes (including one fish) and also a pot of tea (like ginger tea)
it's enough to feed a family of 4...haha

ha....no one likes those things la..
everyday I have to eat ginger rice, ginger tea, oily pork liver..etc etc
it's suppose to keep your body warm and help you contract and get rid of all the toxins and old blood in your body
but I must admit, the oily stuff does help me get rid of all the toxins faster than normal...but then you'll have diarrhea everyday >_< oh well, it will help you lose weight

also...proper "sit month" you are not suppose to wash your hair or take a bath/shower, and you should not go out at all....

yeah...the no wash hair part is very hard to do..but its suppose to do something with not getting "wind" into her head...if she washes her hair too early she will have headache when older

and CP, you mention about not sleeping with your wife because she is dirty/oily? HA HA,..with a newborn you will hardly be sleeping AT ALL

but I have to agree "sit month" is very important...eventhough I don't listen to every rule my aunties give me. but it does make a big difference in the recovery. For my first baby, I took a shower in the hospital (the nurses told me to) and also I went out to buy diapers the day I got out of the hospital..ended up with a very slow recovery....

this time, I refused to take a shower in the hospital and didn't take one until 4-5 days later. Also I didn't go out until a week later and my body recovered 50% faster

also, the first time I didn't eat all the foods I was supposed to...and this time I ate everything I should and cut out everything I shouldn't (no cold foods) and now I am almost fully recovered (3 weeks after my c-section)

so..."sit month" DOES make a big difference. If you want your wife's body to be strong, make sure she follows at least some of the rules her elders might give her
