No...

I think 家用 is a bit old school. I don't live with my parents (not even in the same country most of the time) what am I suppose to do? Auto-pay? pay annually?

I just pay some of their bills (have their insurance bills send to me for example) and pay for their vacations, etc... i think it's less awkward than money. I think "sum yee" is always better when it's not CASH - it's like giving people cash for birthday... it's a bit too impersonal. After all, my parents don't need my money, they're richer than me....

if your friend's parents rather have hugs than money, why not? who are you or anyone to judge???

i'm sorry but not every asian parent is as materialistic as you think (or as yours). i suddenly feel very sorry for you and feel very fortunate to have parents who do not see money as a sign of love. Thanks for making my day!

    FOR SURE!

Honestly, unless your parents actually need financial support (which is not the case for me or perhaps your friend), parents are more happy to see their kids, talk to their kids and hug their kids than to receive cash every month.... what's the point of having all these money if your kids don't even want to hug you?

Yes ar, so if your parents love money more than hugs, you should give them money!!!

I am just saying your friend doesn't have to use it as an "excuse" because most parents want to see more of their kids when they get older and older, rather than counting "0's" in their bank accounts.

    我好多年我都無同C父C母過農曆年﹐無收過佢哋封利是﹐但係我唔會覺得佢哋係cheap精囉。我諗都無諗過同屋企人講錢...

有呢種思想嘅人最cheap。

.........i said i'm busy around February usually........ not all year around............  you guys have too much imagination to "fill in the blanks" and take words out of context.

so if i am indeed that busy, let's say i really don't see my parents, do you think giving my parents money will make them any happier??

don't be so naive....
