i guess there are some sound cards  which use xp drivers that do not work in vista and windows 7

if that is the case, why not disable the sound on the motherboard, and plug in  a sound blaster card

people are throwing away a lot of pentium 4 computers these days , some have removable sound cards.
at the computer recycling place www.freegeekvancouver.org
one can            buy a sound blaster card for $5
if $5 is too much for you, they throw away a lot of sound cards that are  less full featured but are  perfectly good ,
you can buy  these cheaper sound blaster card for a $1
you may have to visit the freegeek store and look for these cards in the card sorting area
there you will find sound cards  destined for scrap, but still have xp drivers perfectly acceptable by vista ,windows 7
( you safe bet is old  sound blaster cards )

there is nothing sad...  windows 7 is about hope,

and sound blaster  should be blastering  live  not dead

fine tuning the hardware for windows 7 is  acceptable
maanmo 's installations of vista were quite mute,, i finally used a $1 sound card and with extracted drivers from
windows xp

and       the trial error  i had to go through toget windows 7 to use the nvidia go 2  , 32mb video card  can be
quite discouraging

i still think the solution to the sound problem in windows 7 , is to try some sound cardswith xp drivers , vista drivers
one must bumble a bit

for some reason,  getting a driver for sound blaster live  from the manufacturer website seems to be dead end
but here is one website maanmo found by google

there is some discussion on soundblaster live and windows 7
http://www.sevenforums.com/sound ... rrible-sound-5.html

its a long thread,  even maanmo  begin to think its sad sad sad,
playing with windows 7 begin to look like a funeral

but in the final words of the discussion there is hope
""""
KX Project drivers have been around for quite a while and work just fine in Vista
and 7...
I'm still running a SoundBlaster Live value and solved the crackling issue by installing these.
"""

The kX Audio Driver is an independent WDM (Windows Driver Model) driver for all EMU10K1 and EMU10K2-based soundcards manufactured by Creative Technology Ltd. and/or E-mu Systems Inc., including the SoundBlaster Live! series, the E-mu Audio Production Studio (APS) card, and the Audigy / Audigy2 series of cards.
