Sounds like their might be a problem with your cd. Are you sure you burned it properly or is this genuine?

Second, check your bios to see if it is booting to the cd/dvd drive. Usually you can acess it by pressing F1, F2 or Delete key. If it doesn't work still, try pressing TAB when the bios screen shows up and it might show you a text screen instead of a logo (depending on your motherboard that is).

Once you get into the bios screen, check the boot sequence if required and then reboot.

After you reboot with the CD in the drive, it will tell you to press any key to boot the cd.

Windows XP will load with a blue screen and let you select a bunch of options like where to install it and whether to format the hard drive.

It's actually pretty straight-foward compared to the old days (if anyone knows what I'm talking about => FDISK > MS DOS > Windows)

How old is it? It's not worth upgrading when computer/notebooks are so cheap nowadays. Not only are the new computers/notebooks way faster but they're a lot quieter!
