sounds good wor
i haven't tried it... but i have bought like a pound of $300 japanese fatty steak at this japanese meat store, right across from PNE. and trust me... it's super great~ worth every penny as crazy as it sounds.
hmm.... PNE is on hastings x rupert right?
there's a mall diagonally across PNE's CORNER entrance... inside that mall, there's like a chinese and western restaurant. also in the same complex, there's an italian deli/bakery ga. (btw, that italian deli store's proscuitto from italy [not the local one wor...we bought the imported one] is SO DELICIOUS.... pair it with thin slices of cantelope...omg~ so yummy).
sorry sorry my bad
the cross street is not rupert... is renfrew. i got confused cus both starts with "r" . you are right.
the complex is hastings x renfrew.
if you look on the map... at the intersection hastings x renfrew... the complex is is the south west corner of that intersection. which means... the complex ON hastings, BETWEEN renfrew & kaslo street.
dkam22:
get a cantelope before you do the proscuitto... just get one!!!! more authenic 風味to it ga....
the beef tongue is SO GOOD. omg. salt & pepper, grilled till 80% cooked is the BEST.
steak... just get it too!!! (hahaha bad influence) i bought 3 slices of that steak for $60 for hotpot....omg... the flavor of the fat is so 甘香.
if you buy a piece cut off from the steak.... i would say about an inch thick... that's approx 1 lbs (yes, there goes $200). what me & my dad did was.... take it home. cut it into 1" x 1" cubes, & grill it on a portable electrical teppan (we got it from Sears...the type where there's a lower compartment under the rack to catch the melted fat). make sure you just "辣" each side of the cube with out burning it (as in crusting it)... & take a bite. i guarantee you the juice will burst out in your mouth. the reason why we bought a slice of that sucker 1 inch thick is because, if you buy it too thin, then it's not good for teppanyaki...you mind as well buy the sliced ones for hotpot suen la~
one thing you also need to try: the 黑X豬 (sorry, dunno how to type the word in chinese tim). man...buy a few slices for hotpot... super yummy. of course, the taste is different from regular pork la. it looks really fatty, but when you taste it, it goes in so smoothly that you don't even know it's fat.
but since everything is so fatty.... say if you're buying stuff for hotpot~ probably buy 2/3 of the amount that you usually buy for regular meats, cus even if it doesnt taste fat, it's really filling.
aiya...
when me & my hubby go to japan for this kinda beef hotpot, we each only got 3 slices ja... but then there's appetizers etc etc.... so it's filling. don't think it's only 3 slices, as i say before, it's fattening & filling.
i didn't try the 黑X豬 gyoza. i only bought sliced 黑X豬 for hotpot.
but honestly, i think with premium meats like this that has a distinctive taste, less sauce, the better. cus you want to taste the natural flavor of the meat mah~ sauce or over seasoning it is kinda like a waste lor.
and if people are into quantity, but not quality.... then don't even bother buying it because it will be a waste of money!
oh...there's chicken cartilage/soft bone?!?!?!!! how can i miss it?! i LOVE chicken soft bone~ haha...i always order when i go to Guu ga~~~ wah...if can make it at home, then i really need to buy a large keg of japanese beer to drink at home laaaaaaa
