also depend of what kind of banquet.

eg. for chinese restaurant (each table can sit 10)
for the wedding dinner the least $$ per table is $600, $800, then $900.

if you like to drink wine, then pay a little more, if no wine, then a little less is ok.

Or if not going at all, $30 is ok.

Yeah that's my range too. I think $50 was the norm 10 years ago.

I've been invited to few expensive Chinese Wedding Banquet, the host "Hints" us by showing us the  dinner menu  that the banquet cost $2,000 a table!  so you are expected contribute accordingly.
To be honest, I attend wedding to pay tribute to the bride & grooms, it is their decision to go posh style, why we are being asked to pay for the tab? Even for the expensive dinner, I think
$100-120 per head is really reasonable.  But of course we paid accordingly since we know the parents well, and we knew it was their decision, not the young couple.

wah!! $2000 per table is expansive...I don't think it will cost that much even have it at the new "Market" restaurant.
