I picked them up at Point Roberts for 3 reasons:

1.) seller doesn't ship to Canada
2.) even if they ship to Canada, the shipping cost is much higher for this kind of heavy stuff
3.) even if they ship to Canada, and the shipping cost is alright, the brokerage fee could be crazy, especially UPS, USPS is much more reasonable.

by picking them up at Point Roberts:
1.) I need to pay the package receiving, I had TSB Shipping, $5/tire x 4 = 20, $3/wheel (< 20 lbs) * 4 = 12, $32USD paid TSB
2.) I got them while loonie was a bit higher
3.) I've heard rumors saying non North America manufactured auto parts(especially tire), could cost additional 8% duty at custom, but I didn't get that extra duty for my Nokian tires(made in Finland), only PST+GST


Make sure to have the receipts ready at the border.

ya, I think for those who check the tire pressure regularly may not benefit much from the nitrogen inflation because it doesn't leak as quick as the regular air.

I think Nitrogen's benefit is exaggerated.  If you're going racing, OK.  But for daily driving with good condition rims and tire valve, regular air is fine.  

"A tire filled with “plain old air” will lose 1.5 PSI in less than a month; with nitrogen, this could take three months or longer. "  

This never happened to me unless I have a bad tire valve, tire leak, or leaky rims.  I check my tires every few months and it only goes down buy a couple of psi.  It's better to invest in new tire valves rather than getting nitrogen IMO.  With properly inflated tire with just regular air, nitrogen will not give you that much benefit.

Btw, gas station air could be bad sometimes because they don't filter out the water vapor in the hose, compressor, etc, which will end up inside your tire.  Buy a good quality cigarette lighter air compressor.

I haven't seen any cigarette lighter air compressor that filler the air moisture.    Anyhow, that's a good point.

If $7-8 / tire of nitrogen give you the piece of mind, go for it.    But why don't just follow us and check your tires once in a while.  The saving amount above basically assume you aren't going to do that.  This will give you the same saving.

You got lucky la... when my snow tires are shipped to point roberts and declare @ canadian custom, we paid gst+pst+duty (7 or 8% forgot).
But the storage fee is only $10...(both tire + rim)
still...the whole thing is less than if I buy from canada.

LOL...I've never seen a cigarette lighter air compressor spits out water vapor in my life...

Seriously, the air compressor at gas station sits in hot/cold/humid weather all year around, or simply just by compressing air in the tank causes vapor to liquidfy.  You can literally open the tank and drink from it!
