The reality is 85% of the education budget goes to teachers salary and they are now asking for 26 wks of compassionate leave for friends not relatives that are suffering critical illness.

I'm not surprised if professor make more than 100k a year, I think the requirement would be different between professor and teacher.

75k~85k for high school or lower...that seems high to me.

if salary 75k per year, can you still remain $4600/month to take home(net pay)? I don't know much about the tax bracket in BC

for a teacher to make well >70K, one probably needs to be a step 10, cat 6 + doing summer teaching or have some sort of side job - http://www.bcpsea.bc.ca/bc-teach ... r-salary-grids.aspx, since the max. salary for a step 10, cat 6 teacher is ~70K.

and what does it take to become a cat6, step 10 teacher-- a graduate degree + yrs worth of teaching experience... in reality, a lot of jobs on the main stream market pay a lot more than 70K for someone w/ a graduate degree...

Category Six (6)

The requirements for this category are two or more acceptable programs that total six or more years of academic and professional studies and include an acceptable graduate degree.

The requirements may be met with one of:

a) An acceptable five-year B Ed degree or an acceptable four-year baccalaureate degree plus an acceptable professional year of teacher preparation followed by an acceptable graduate degree; or,

b) An acceptable four-year B Ed degree followed by an acceptable integrated program (note Regulation 4.05) and an acceptable graduate degree or an acceptable graduate degree and another acceptable degree; or,

c) An acceptable three-year baccalaureate degree plus an acceptable professional year of teacher preparation followed by an acceptable integrated program (note Regulation 4.05) and an acceptable graduate degree or an acceptable graduate degree and another acceptable degree; or,

d) An acceptable three-year baccalaureate degree plus an acceptable two-year B Ed and an acceptable graduate degree; or,

e) A program of five or more years of study which contains not less than 150 acceptable semester credits (or their equivalent) including an acceptable degree and an acceptable professional year, and which meets the requirement for Professional Certification by the British Columbia College of Teachers (see Transition Rules 6.00), plus an acceptable graduate degree.

That's what I think.  People are so easily jealous without thinking what it takes to get to that level of income. I am sick of people who complain about low salary but never think about how they can make more.
