I am a beginner who has snowboarded a few times
My right leg is the strong leg but my binding is regular (but my friend helped me to set as duck stance so I can try with both side)
some say stronger leg goes in front but some say should go behind
and here's my situation:
When I slide forward I feel more balanced and comfortable with my right foot forward
but when I had lesson I was taught to do S turn with my left (since I told the instructor I wasn't sure about which stance) so I feel better when turning with left.......I also use my left to get off the lifting chair although I haven't tried getting off with my right. Last night at night ski my friend suggested me to choose on my right, so I tried turning with my right and of course 跌到攤攤腰.........but later I think I sort of got it lor............
so should I convert everything to goofy? or I should try getting used to sliding forward with my left?
Just use whichever stance is more comfortable... It's actually a good thing you know both stances. When i first started i was goofy and after getting the S turn, i found if i knew regular stance too i would be a lot more mobile on the mountain. Also known as switch stance, especially if you have your bindings set in duck already.
Just try going from stance to stance and doing S turns. It feels MUCH better to be able to do too trust me.
have you tried the put-from-behind trick to determine your stance?

yup I did
happened to be my right then my friend said I was a regular on my first day.....
later another frd told me this method doesn't work
and also the confusing part is
some people say if right foot steps forward then that means regular
while some say if right foot steps forward then that means goofy..............

I would say you are goofy then... its whichever foot you put forward. My first ever lesson was with an instructor at Whistler so i don't think he would lie about the test... it makes sense too.
If you are totally comfortable with regular then just start doing goofy =)
do you guys think stronger leg should be in front or should be behind? cuz seems like everyone has a different theory......
or really there is no rule about that and just whatever is most comfortable?
and btw, I play badminton
and a frd of mine who plays badminton and snowboards tells me she and most of her badminton friends are goofy
she thinks it's because we are used to use our right leg to lunge. Do you think there is a correlation too?
actually, i play badminton too. while playing badminton, i put my right leg in the front, JUST BCUZ it is easier for me to return shuttlecocks coming to my left side. (more distance = more time to react)
while snowboarding, i am regular (left leg in front). i feel more comfortable this way and this is also the result of my push-from-behind test.
for snowboard beginners, turns are initiated by the turning of the head > upper body > waist > tight > leg > foot (like a top-down elastic band twist). therefore it doesn't really matter rather your strong leg should be in the front or not. YOU JUST HAVE TO FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH ONE WAY AND STICK TO IT.
most importantly, just take more lessons and get more advices from the instructors. the more observation they have on you, the more personalized advices they can give you.
