.. even though we brought our bunny to dr potter.. i actually dun like her that much. she's kinda rough and has not much patience..?
one time we asked for dr potter but got dr mcewen instead (her daughter). she's younger but more gentle..

and speaking of vets. i want to share this with all of you too. about 6 months or so we brought barni to dr potter to see if she had a better solution to barni's urine burn problems. she suggested that we shave all the hair off his legs and areas near his private parts so it's easier to clean and so the fur isn't always constantly wet with urine. (michele the rabbit boarding lady had her bunny benji shaved too so we thought ok sure we can do that). so dr potter leaves and said she'll get one of her nurses to shave barni. so a nurse comes in, she looked very young... and she was supposed  to carry barni off to another room so they can shave him. but for us that handle rabbits everyday we know how to pick up a rabbit, and how NOT to let a rabbit kick like crazy. but the nurse that came in had no idea how to pick up our bunny. she was in slow motion so of course our bunny'd jump away. so WE pick up barni and hand it to her... i was already worried and i actually regret it very much. she did not seem like she knew how to handle rabbits at all.
so half an hour later they said it's done and we didn't check on barni cuz he was already in the carrier and we just wanted to bring him home asap.
and we go home and we let him out... and it seemed like barni was LIMPING. he had never seen him like that... he was kinda dragging his leg or both legs and wasn't jumping like a rabbit should... PLUS he refused to eat anything. i got really worried so i called w. blvd to ask if anything went wrong and they just said no. so i told them the situation and they said nthg went wrong, barni was never dropped.. and even suggested that we go back to them.. -_-...... i refused right away and they said they'll call back to check on us but they never did.
so we force fed barni for a week and thank goodness he got better... as for his leg. ever since that time every now and then it'd seem like his leg(s) is bothering him... one day he'd be ok.. the next he'd look weird...
until the 1.5 months... every now and then he'd seem to have lost control of his leg(s).. he won't jump and will only drag his leg.. =\ 真係念起都好心痛.... =( the weird part was that one day he'd jump normally.. but the next he'd be limping...
i mean i have no real evidence to say that w blvd is responsible... but it just seems to be such a coincidence that we have never noticed anything until that vet visit lor...

another thing.. since 2 of you mentioned that you did/do go to arbutus west.
i think there's a vet there with the last name of brondwin...?
i've had a bad experience with him too.
it wasn't with my bunny.. i had a dwarf hamster years ago, and she had a huge lump on one of her legs. so we brought her there to see dr brondwin cuz i rmb i did some research and supposedly he's a good vet for rodents.
when he was checking on my hammy he SQUEEZED the lump really firmly it scared the heck out of me. my hamster was squirming like crazy when he did that... and when we got home there was liquid all around the lump but there was no wound on the lump (not like a pimple)... it seemed like he squeezed water out from the surface or sthg.. very scary.. he was so harsh and rough...

不過講真.. i've never met a vet that i thought was EXPERIENCED AND GENTLE... it's like these 2 qualities do not exist together... =\
we've also been to dr anderson (on granville) once. i think it was our bunny's first vet visit. we picked hiim cuz he's closer to richmond. but he was very rough too... and expensive.
dr mcewen and dr rana (lansdowne vet.. we brought our other hamsters there a couple of times. but he's not really a small animal vet) are more gentle...
oh and the one at eagleridge is fairly nice too. but too far away.

so far dr potter seems ok to me.. she's quick and i think that's from her experience.  The way she handles bunnies and the kind of things she tested for makes me feel like she has a lot of experience.  her daughter on the other hand is more gentle but seems to be lacking experience (as she's still young).

dr brondwin seems a bit cold in terms of personality.  after my first bun Mocha passed away i took him to arbutus west to 解剖 to find out what happened... and he didnt seem very patient with me.  but they were nice enough not to charge me for the 解剖...

after dr martinez left arbutus west i didnt know and took Mocha back for a check up (that was before he died, of cos)... because i didnt know who to find since martinez was gone, they put me with a random vet peron... i dont remember her name but OMG she was super rough on Mocha!! we were suspecting sth was wrong with his bladder so she wanted to get urine sample and what she did was she SQUEEZED HIS BLADDER and make his pee squat out!!!!! i was like WTF it looked so painful! and when she was handling Mocha she didnt seem to know how and he kicked her close to her eye... i asked "are you ok?" and she was like "....no..", definitely not friendly and not rabbit savvy.  it was since then i decided against arbutus west.

dr martinez has a lot of patience but he is super holistic... when he was still with arbutus west and i took my buns in for check up, he pulled me outside the vet more than one time to show me which grass i can pick for my buns to eat and he'd pull out a knife and grab a bunch of fresh grass and give them to my bun... he does that even tho he's late for his next appointmnet (maybe that's why he's never on time).  He is gentle and has lots of experience with rabbits too, i like him a lot... except he's way too 長氣 lol.

argh i hate it when they get someone who aren't familiar with rabbits to look at bunnies. it's so obvious to us whether or not they're rabbit savvy or not.......... they just can't fake it.
it's true that dr potter is very experienced i guess. you're right how she's quick. but she's not very patient..? when she wanted to check on barni's teeth.. she tried for like... 10 secs max and said barni wouldn't stay still she she can't check it thoroughly and suggested that we give her anesthetics so she can check her teeth..!? erm... -_- and i hated how she got her inexperienced nurse to carry barni off to the other room...... god knows what happened after that =(

回復 10# Snowy

Hi Snowy,
I trim his nails regularly, it's not related to his nails.
My living room has laminate flooring, I have an area rug for him, he was ok for the past 4 years, and he has the sore problem just recently. The vet suggested me to put a bed cover sheet (cotton material) on top of the rug, so he can have less contact with the rugs, and will feel more comfortable. I started to do it yesterday, he seems enjoying the cotton bed cover sheet. I also applied the medical cream to his sores. He always want to escape from my catch now..haha

thanks!

Hello,
I went to Dr. Martinez yesterday, he is very kind and experienced. He has a small grass area in the clinic, let my bunny run around for a while, and did the body and dental check in front of me. He seems to know a lot about rabbits, told me why he has pressure sores, told me what I should do, told me what kind of grass and hay I should provide. Very nice experience, and reasonable price. Basic exam fee is $45 + $15 for medication.

Also, they close at 7pm, fits my 9-5 life a lot. I will recommend this clinic to all rabbits.

Regarding the recepitionist, she seems ok to me while I was in the clinic, chatted with me, and played with my bunny. She is not local Canadaian I guess, may be from Europe, so her English sounds a bit funny. Anyway, I don't have any issues with her.

I don't go to Arbutus West anymore, cos I had moved to Richmond.
I'm ok going to Little Paws now, closer to me, and longer clinic hours.

i went to dr potter ytd for my bunny's recheck... had an xray taken ($$$!!!!!) and after that she took a lot of time explaining to me that my bun was fine and was digging thru records of other buns to show me what it'd look like if she had gut problems or bladder stones.  she seems pretty patient yesterday?  I guess u went to her on her bad day? (p.s. they were nice enough to not charge for my recheck ytd, if they did then i'd be broke cuz xray was EXPENSIVE!)... i was also very happy that they had xray equipment on hand, cuz arbutus west didnt and they had to send me to dr upjohn in COQUITLAM (far!!)... dr upjohn is well known to be a good bun vet too but the xray turned out blurred and we couldn't see anything.  this time at dr potter the xray was very clear, i guess their technician have better skills?
