My kitchen's old CRT TV is not working any more. I think I should go for LCD TV but some said those HD LCD TV will provide even worst picture quality when watching Fairchild TV because Fairchild is still in SD broadcasating. However, 90% TV program watched by my family members is Chinese program, in the kitchen. Should I follow the trend to go for LCD or simply get a CRT TV ?
Any experience to share with ?

I heard that some LCD TV has internal upconverting function, but some requires an external box to do that. If the signal is not upconverted then I guess it will look pretty bad.
I can assure you the picture quality of LCD TV from channel Fairchild is worst than CRT TV when it is newly set up.
Our Sony CRT TV gone last December and we got a good deal from Sony LCD. We hook it up and found the picture increased a lot, compare with our 2nd TV (Sony Plasma) except channel Fairchild go worst.
We talked to the representative from Sony but have no logical information to clear our question. Fortunatly, we do not watch too much Chinese channel with LCD and that is why do not upset us too much. After 2 months, we found the Chinese channel picture improved and almost good as our 2nd TV. We do know why and we guess, the LCD get used to channel Fairchild
I hope the above experience can give you additional information about CRT TV, Plasma and LCD.
After reading all your sharing, it seems that I should go for traditional CRT TV for elderly family member to watch Chinese channels while cooking in kitchen.
Unfortunately, it's hard to find a reliable Japanese brand name CRT TV. I went to FS @ West Broadway or Cosxxo, no more CRT TV there. Not mentioning FS demonstrates the poor SD TV picture on LCD TV. In Wal-Mxxt or Zelxxr, only unknown dusty brand names there.
Very frustrated.
