read your owner's manual, whatever it says is the MINIMUM requirement so it's always better to use better gas (yes, there are friends who says "oh i used 92 and it doesn't seem to feel a diff"; it's a long term investment kinda thing, it's just better for your engine especially if u have to go onto hwy a lot, or uphill a lot)
in general i dun really recommend 87 unless it's domestic ****box, their engine is designed for 87 (and yes, almost 99% of Japanese engine / European engine ain't designed for 87, they dun have cheap gas like us; it's just diff ecu setting to make the car driveable, how reliable? they almost ensure it will last you till about warranty ends)...

You're so funny. in Asian 92=87 here, don't be fooled by numbers.
Jap cars an't any better then domestics, at least, they don't have the problem as Toyota having right now. I'd rather drive a XXXXXbag than can't-stop jap car.
For a relatively new Camry, I think 89 should be enough unless you push your car on freeway all the time. Occationally you may need 92 in a hot summer day. Of course if money is not an issue put in 94...LOL
i didn't say in asia 92 =87, don't get me wrong! i only said the standard in asia is diff than here (possibly) and cars running with 87 in general will have more issue with check engine lights and their o2 sensor / knock sensor etc seems to go easier than cars running in higher octane...
of course, you can do whatever you wanna do; you don't have to use 87+ if you don't want to?
and when are we talking about brakes now? what about reliability and handling? come on, stay on topic ;)
yeah in most case if you are not pushing it uphill / running it so hot on the freeway all the time, 89 should be enough but say in general most ppl gets 12k to 18k a year, 1 tank of gas in 87 to 92 is about $6/tank, say usually ppl gets 400 to 450 a tank, it's only $270 a year (not even $25 a month, assume it's 400 a tank, 18000km a year) and long term wise, i still think it's a better investment?
of course, if you don't mind random check engine light (such like one of my friend, his car kept having check engine light and mechanic always told him nothing is wrong (sensor was replaced) and as soon as he switched to higher octane, check engine light never came back again...or random stalling on a couple 10 to 15 years old car with less than 200k (all tune up etc are done, nothing could really be needed)...
also, buying a new catalytic convertor, especially on new cars, ain't cheap! it's like my friend didn't change his coolant cause he thought he has to do his timing belt soon, last week when it was minus bomb, radiator blew up...not worth it (well toyota told him those are long life coolant)
it's $5 or $6/100L and assume one can have up to 30k a year, and 400km a tank at about 50 to 60L, i only got $270 diff at the very most; how many ppl do get 30,000km a year and not even 400km a tank on a 07 camry (or any other kinda car?)

i am getting 420km+ on my parent's legacy, around 55L (94 only)
i am getting 450 to 480km on my sister's impreza, around 55L (92 or 94)
i was getting 380km on my B18C5 Civic, around 38L (94 only)
i was getting 480km on my supercharged Echo, around 38L (94 only)
I'm paying $377.5 for gas in nov (yes i drive around a lot, for work etc), around 315L to 320L of gas (around 2500km+). IF i am using 87 (unfortunately, my STi doesn't have that option but let's say i do), i will be paying $45 less last month? Since gas is already so expensive, why not just keep it up so hopefully I don't have to spend on other repairs? Not to mention I don't get very good gas mileage also because I do a lot of short trips driving, I missed the days I have had my civic / echo, I was paying probably $100 less but I need the van for carrying more people and parts (compares civic with echo before, sti with odyssey now)...
