Vancouver Campus Advisory -- Threat Update
Wed. Feb. 6, 4:00 pm
Broadcast message to all UBC Vancouver Students, Faculty and Staff from President Stephen J. Toope
As of 4 pm today, the RCMP has confirmed that the threat received earlier this week at the University does not extend beyond today. As a result, normal activities will continue at the Point Grey campus on Thursday, February 7. Classes and all other regularly scheduled activities will resume at the Biosciences Building.
The investigation is progressing and is being carried out vigorously. As a result, the RCMP will maintain an enhanced police presence on campus as this process continues.
We recognize there is a desire to hear more details. The RCMP have advised that police are not able to share all details of an investigation with the media or public in order to protect the integrity of the investigation. To release details may compromise police actions, potentially allowing persons to avoid detection. It may also invite other individuals to engage in behaviours that could hamper the investigation. Should there be a credible threat to the public, police will provide an advisory. Ensuring public safety remains the first priority of the University and the RCMP.
