I thought up a huge Google conspiracy yesterday.
Now when you go to Youtube with IE6, it will say IE6 is not supported, and there is an icon to ask you to download Chrome.
Now, no one will say WTF, because IE6 has been on the news about it's security flaw. But how was IE6 flaw got so famous and popular? It's by the news of Google pulling out of China.
If I was google and I got a way better product than IE6, but IE6 still have the biggest market share, because business and dumb users stuck with IE6 and not willing to move alone, what can I do to force people take a look of new browsers available?
I would buy the most popular service (ie. youtube, gmail, ....), then use those service to force user to change browser in order to use them. But how do I force them to change without being the EVIL guy? Blame it on MS and China, both are super easy target without doubt. First find a security hole in IE6, but that's not enough (have found many, but the dumb users still ignore and might not aware of the flaw), second create a big deal out of it by announcing "it's so serious that google need to fight China government". Now that made headlines for many weeks. Right after that (that's only few days after announcement), google announced they will not support IE6 in any google service soon.
Is it just me or does it make sense? Who gains the most if IE6 is retired when you go to any google service, you see icon to download Chrome and tells you IE6 is no good.
I love Chrome and google myself, btw. |
