I was researching for a subcompact for a friend and I bumped into Ford.ca and saw the 2011 Ford Fiesta. Wow, even more affordable than Yaris, and it looks cool inside and out.
What do you think? here's a cool Top Gear video of it inside a Mall!
I like their dual clutch gearbox... Not here yet, coming in a couple of weeks the Ford dealer said.
Any word on when will Mazda 2 be available for purchase?
The DCT in the Fiesta is a very appealing feature. Kudos to Ford for putting it into such an affordable car.
On the other hand, the style of the car does very little for me. In particular, in sedan form, the car is just UGLY, esp the way the trunk is shaped. It is just far too high, and looks like an ungainly lump tacked on to the back. Interior styling is not my cup of tea either -- I think Ford is trying to appeal to a younger crowd here, and the more elaborate lines of the steering wheel, dash, driver console, etc. looks a little convoluted to my eyes. Quality of interior plastics are only average, but at least they don't feel cheap.
The Mazda2 is supposed to have arrived at the local dealerships. I really ought to go check them out.
Ford is always a luxorious model in Europe, not sure how Ford will market it in here, if it can retain the same equipments as the European models, then they might have a chance of selling them well.
The Mazda2 doesn't really need selling, Mazda just sell the "zoom-zoom" feeling and people tend to "get it". It's just funny.
I am sure Mazda and Ford will tune the car differently.
IIRC, early reviews (based on European models, I think) are saying that the Fiesta has been tuned to give a sportier ride than the Mazda2. Also, don't forget that the Fiesta is slightly longer than the Mazda2 even though they are built from the same platform.
