Well, your Canadian 阿爺 here, also want to "own the podium". Therefore, nearly $200 million was invested into the athletes. But now they concede that they cannot beat the US to "own the podium".

For me, I felt upset about the team if what the coach said is right (have nothing to do with which nationality they are).  And if you watched the game, you may have the same feeling too.

What kind of lame excuse saying that the coach is jealous.  He is the coach and he should be the one proud of the team he built up in 2 years time.  Why not saying that China is not going to renew his contract, and that's why he said something like this.  It would make a bit more sense.

There are athletes with loads of passion and they show in their races, even they aren't top competitors.  If you see Olympics is ONLY about national pride, you may have missed a whole lot.  And if what you said is exactly how China see Olympics, then it is just too bad for China.  And that will explain why the coach does fit this job from day one.

FYI, the China speed skating team spent most of their years training in Calgary and few also had Canadian coaches.  From their interview, they did show their passion about the sport, even being away from home with all the harsh training and not able to score for the gold medal (yet).

well actually I think the whole event is stupid.  National pride or not, it's just a gimmick to attract viewership.  At the end of the day, MONEY is what counts.

Being the type of cynical person you are, I wouldn't have expected you to look at it in any other way. But I think our very own Olympic medalist Clara Hughes sums it up best here:

Stop giving out lame excuse, which applies to almost everything but meaningless.  One could said Tiger woods has no obligation to entertain you with his personal sex life, so according to the excuse, we have no right to talk about it and women have no right to put their hate on him.  LOL.

Again, I feel disappointed with the China curling team because of their behavior (if that's true), not because of their nationality.  If Canada team did that, I feel the same on them.

I see Olympics differently and I put focus on the athletes rather than treating as a show.  Of course you could think it as stupid and switch channel too.  Peace.

They won the bronze medal. They don't need any excuse or to care about what the detractors say about them. They have achieved more for their country than these bashers ever will.
If the bashers really care about sports, why don't they pick up any sport themselves?

Maybe you personally know everyone high up in China and know what their expectation to the curling team.  Otherwise, how do you know they satisfied everyone's expectation?  They sure failed to achieved in the "sportmanship" category in few people's dictionary.

wahahahaha, based on what do you make the conclusion that they don't have passion? You don't even know them, you don't even know curling?
I don't know what the Chinese government thinks. But from my spectators perspective, they have done a good job.

They are so passionate and emotional.
