Lik, normally when you want to mod a car, you have to buy a car first, which is designed and made by some other people. Then you need to buy some modding parts, again designed and made by some other people.

Like you said, car modding is a big business. Yes, you need to pay other people for the modding parts, so it is big money making business for them, but just a parts swapping hobby for you at home.

Car designers and engineers need to learn how to design a car, starting from the platform and then the other parts. When you do not even know how to design and make a suspension, headlight, or muffler etc, then it is just a hobby for you.

冇度過0-100 幾多秒，因為部車都唔係要黎跑直路，要直路快以一部fit 仔既價錢應該都買到唔少二手v8 跑車....

係冇錯，萬事都需要由買一部車開始。玩車同玩電腦，相機，手錶，音響之類一樣，好多時都係鐘意佢既款或者功能。冇錯好多野都係其他人design，裝嵌。但係點解出面咁多人改車鬥車但係好少見人由0開始設計同組裝一部車出黎呢﹖點解佢地都揀鬥大量/限量生產車呢﹖原因我諗到既有幾個:

- 買一部車返黎比起設計，裝嵌，測試，改良，所需人力物力少好多。你話街外人點樣有access去一台好似engine dyno，又或者一個風洞﹖
- 賽例同車廠支援，科技日新月異，賽例亦年年咁變。就算一部街車，跑完一年，第二年都可能因為改賽例而要執好多野先跑得。有唔少車廠已經為職業/業餘車手提供一d 齋車，冇跟音響冷氣，連櫈都你求其俾張你，反正你都係會改，車價更平。
自己整得一部黎，你d 朋友都唔知已經跑左幾多年，攞左幾多真正駕駛經驗﹖而你﹖收左工仲可能屈o係車房整下呢度，郁下果度。
- 部車既價值，好似一部廠隊改出黎既車，以日本無限/spoon呢d 改honda既品牌咁計，佢地改左一部出黎，鬥左一年退役，賣去hk/東南亞都仲執到d 錢，事關廠隊改出黎既野，出面就算幾pro 既人都好，冇車廠做後台提供各種設備同數據俾你，你un有料都係假，一樣整唔到d 咁精密既野出黎。學家英哥講........有車都冇輪用。

正如好多鐘愛名錶既男仕，點解佢地要一擲千金買名錶﹖就係因為佢既設計，精密既造工同準確程度令隻錶既價值維持o係一個水平。你識設計鐘錶既，冇問題，但係出面有冇人會appreciate你既設計呢﹖先唔好講人地buy唔buy你既設計，你覺得你自己用番既話，佢會last到幾耐﹖

Manufacturers build cars on a budget. It does not matter if it is an econobox or an exotic. Cost cutting is expected. Veteran enthusiasts will often be able to spot the effects of cost cutting and remedy them accordingly with another higher quality part.

Granted, one doesn't necessarily need to be an engineer, designer or someone in the automotive industry to spot these flaws or places for improvement. It does however take experience, knowledge, common sense, and thick wallet to challenge oem designs. There have been many documented instances where enthusiasts have put the manufacturer's poor designs to shame.

For example, in the BMW e46 3 series, due to the rocking motion of the rear sub frame, stress is put on the sheet metal via the bolt and subsequently causing the metal fatigue on the chassis resulting in catastrophic sub frame failures.

BMW knew of this problem day one because the previous generation 3 series with a almost identical design suffered from the same design flaw. After market knew it going to be the same with the e46 and already had solid bushings and weld on reinforcement plates ready to go at the launch of the e46 back in 99.

However, there also exist in this world the direct opposite of the group of car enthusiasts I just mentioned above. The second group of enthusiasts are the ones with poor taste, poor judgement and general lack of knowledge and respect for fine automobiles.

This group of people rarely know what they are doing and often than not cause irreversible damage to the vehicle that end up much worse than OEM specifications. These guys usually end up as a punchline in a "You're Doing It Wrong" picture or as comic relief in an episode of Top Gear.

Both groups of people are car enthusiasts, but which group do you belong to? Do you belong to the ones that innovate and improve or do you belong to the group that only believe you are?

That argument aside, I'm addressing both groups of people out there when I say this. If you feel like nothing fits and everything needs to be modified or customized, maybe you should consider buying another car that fits your needs more accurately, instead of wasting time and money hacking up your current ride.

can't always go by dyno chart, unless you really really know how to tell the diff between charts / if you are just going to build the exact same setup; yet i am sure 90% the poster won't have 100% of the list...

try to narrow down what u want and go for it; like we installed a supercharger for a FiT today and once you get there, u know what u want next
