Tinted Windows

*sigh*... got pulled over this morning on my way to work at Cambie and River Road (the infamous 3-way stop)... not because i didn't come to a complete stop while making a right turn... it's because the cop was bored out of his mind and he pulled me over to tell me to roll up my window... and he caught me with my front window tinted...

he told me that i must remove the front tints and show an officer that it is done (he gave me a ticket which i must hand in to the station)... here's my Q to fellow LYKs... do you guys know any good trustworthy place to remove such tint jobs (in Richmond)??? and what's the price approx...

also... it is possible to do it myself... i don't have the experience... i got the tint job on when i was in Kelowna...

many thanks...

You can DIY with a heat gun/hair dryer and patients. That's what I did...

You can also gamble that the cop at the station won't go out and check your car... haha.. when I went to the station, the cop just asked me if I had the tint removed, I said yes, then off I go.

NO WAY... the cop just asked??
haha that's hilarious...
did u retint your window again then??

i thought about DIY and i'm not sure if that's the best way to go... for one... i got zero exp...
and i'm not sure if they took out the entire door / panel to put on the tint... 2nd... i'm afraid they use some special adhesives... and i simply don't think i got the patience to blow and rip...

what's messed up is that my back is limo-dark... and now that the front will be gone... it'll be super ugly... big contrast... kinda wanna remove everything... and then slap on a lighter tint all around... *sigh*

don't take this the wrong way... but why do you want front tint anyways?

notgoddy: i was working in Kelowna several summers ago and it got to like high 30C... and inside the car was like 50... and it's "melting" the dashboard area... after work, when i go into my car... i press the dashboard and it would feel soft (almost like a sponge)... plus the sun in Kelowna is incredible... even wearing shades don't work all that well... and then of coz there's the obvious reasons... privacy and what not...

字典仔: thanks... but i managed to find this guy... he's gonna do it for 20bux / door... i'm seriously in no mood to sit there to blow and rip... i just hope he does a good job... i remember telling the guy in Kelowna to do the back 5%... and the front 50%... but the lucky cop still got me this morning... dang it...

Pooner: $20隻門差唔多啦...

後面5%太黑喇, 令到架車裡面整體既光線冇晒; 我個friend後面都tint左5%, 三年內比人pullover四次查佢前面...烈市d龜得閒丫嘛

i know... so fcuking gay... now that i think about it... i should have done something similar to what you did... i didn't think of the contrast clearly when i had it done back then... it's definitely the contrast that killed me for sure... and it didn't help that my car doesn't have a sunroof to let some of the light in...

yeah... 20bux is definitely worth it for sure... coz i know i'm gonna do a crappy-ass job...
i guess good thing i didn't get slap with a 600bux fine...

for your friend... did he also tint the front??

Why front tint? It's hot in summer here and I have a dark color car. In addition the AC sucks in my car.

If you have limo tint, it makes your front tint more obvious. I like 50/20 so it's balance a little.. but still got caught at the end. Older Civic did came with factory tint, so the cops didn't bother. My friend got pulled over, and the Windows has "AS2" on there, the cop had no choice but to let go.

I undo my tiny easily in less than 20 min. It's hard to put it on but it's easy to take it out. Just heat gun for me. You can try to lightly scratch the tint off and see how much adhesive residue is left. If there isn't a lot, you can try to undo it yourself. To clean the window afterward, just use Goo Gone.

Tint material should be self-adhesive, if the material is strong enough, you can pull the whole thing out all together. If it shredds, you need professional help, those shop that does tint can do it for about $30.

i knew my windows were a little tinted to begin with... but i didn't know that they're already AS2... learnt something here...

but then i don't think i could have gotten off easily... because when i rolled up the window... he saw the little gap from the edge of the window to the film... *sigh*...
