HDMI output won't use full screen

Video card: ATI Radeon HD4200
Screen: LG W2453
Connecting with HDMI cable
Resolution is at automatically at the highest setting: 1920 x 1080 but is not using the full screen size; it's like watching a movie at the theater with black bars on the 4 sides.

It will use the whole screen if I set the resolution to 800 x 600, which means nothing.

How do I fix this?

Thanks

Tried it with a Dell 23/24 " screen with HDMI output and it worked fine. It gave me a resolution higher than 1920 x 1080.

Seems like it's not the driver of the video card. Updated the driver for the LG screen still no luck.

The LG screen is 60Hz but the com's setting is default at 59Hz. I changed it to 60Hz but it changed back to 59Hz itself.

Seems like a common problem with many ATI video card with HDMI. It has to do with the overscan function in the ATI driver. Please click on this link and hope it may help you (read from top to bottom about different ways to solve the problem and try one that fits you):

That issue is well known in both nVidia and ATI cards, it has to do with the handshake of HDMI to the display. It is more of an hardware and software issue as you can see that different monitors behave differently.

I am using 4550 with my TV, no problem at all.

You might want to install the monior inf drivers too?

Update:

I installed the latest version of the ATI CCC as suggested by many people from what I read online, didn't work. And it turned out that there was this overscan setting hiding somewhere on the older version.

Went through all that installation, but none of that was needed after all!

Thanks guys
