15% if nothing wrong, and I feel comfortable.
15 to 20% if something makes me happy.
10% if no smile on the face.

All after tax.

usually after tax 10%
I totally agree with purpleheart, waiter job is tough

They have freedom to choose the job. If they think being a server is a tough job, they can choose some other jobs. We tip them not because of their job nature is tough, but depends on how good or bad their actual service is. Garbage guy is a tough job too, do we tip them all because of "their job is a tough job"?
(sorry to be mean)

It's a sad North American thing... Waiters and waitresses here mostly get paid very little and they based a lot of their income on tipping.
It's very diff in Europe and thus tipping isn't really needed if you dine at restaurants in most western European countries.
This is just how the industry here runs...

Yes, true.
Another example- Japan. See how sincere and professional they serve customers (even pretend to do so), but never ask for any tip. (not accepting tip is their normal practice) Is their job less tough than other countries? I don't think so.

我覺得 waiter 係一件好辛苦的工作 , 幾個鐘頭一腳踢, 如果service唔係太差我都計 tax 再加 10%~ 其實計唔計tax都唔緊要啦, 除非你張單成舊水o者......

Well, at least the servers are entitled to minimum pay plus benefit in Canada.
Many states south of the border the servers get only $600 -$1000 base salary, they have to rely on tip.
Try to tip less they will chase you for it.
In Europe, waiter is a  respectful profession and they treat their job as lifetime career.   I tend to tip more at the high end dining venues because
they would really try hard to make your dining an memorable experience while most of the Chinese restaurant waiters just see it as
a temporary job, never bother to upgrade themselves since the tips are pooled, nobody bother  to do extra work.

Just curious, after the HST is imposed, will you still give out much tips as now?

I'll dine in my house instead of dinning out.
