Travel to Hawaii

Please direct to the appropiate section for travel advise.

My wife and I are going to oahu (honolulu) at the end of September to attend a wedding. and will be staying at Best Western coconut.

I have search everywhere and found this website to have a good deal for hotel

I place the payment on Aug 4, and got a confirmation email on Aug 12. So i call the hotel and it is all confirm. Maybe you can call them and ask for confirmation for quicker reponse.

below are the activities which we will be doing :

1) Segway anyone try the below tour before?

either www.segwayofhawaii.com or www.segventure.com

2) luau - paradise cove

will try the most expensive one and sit in the royal box, coz we don't like to lineup for drinks

3) snorkel @ Hanauma Bay

either by bus, taxi, or shuttle from hotel for $17 (include mask, fin)

Any other suggestions what we can do there?

上次我去HANAUMA BAY，搵到架VAN ＄12 包車來回，包MASK ＆ FIN喎～ ＄17有點貴。

去玩SCUBA都好架！唔記得EXACTLY幾多，不過唔貴嘅。下次我去，會想考個SCUBA牌，幾日搞掂。

Sweet, where did you find the van ga? from local newspaper or bulleton board? anyone play segway before?

want to know if having a tour for 90min or 4 hr ?

I rode Segway before, not at Hawaii but in my office.  My friend even bought one.  Will that help..

Why do you want to do Segway hawaii, especially in honolulu? Most of the time the streets are too crowded for you to ride the Segway comfortably. Personally, I was not impressed when I was in honolulu since it is always overcrowded with tons of tourist (like in Tsim Sha Tsui) and the beaches are not as nice as I have anticipated. If I were you, I'll only spend a day or two and that's good enough. There are many other prettier places in Oahu to go to.

Hanauma Bay is ok, but again because of overcrowdness,  all the fishes got scared away and there is not much to see unless you are farther out from coast... plus the water is not clear at all. I was quite disappointed when I went snorkeling back in 2007. But I guess that's a must go since I don't think there are other popular snorkeling area in Oahu.

I suggest you to rent a car and drive around the island, the other sides of the island have much nicer white sand beaches.

I highly recommend Aloha Stadium Swap Meet, it is a great place to shop for nice and cheap souvenir, don't buy in Honolulu.

Also visit the Turtle Bay to see huge turtles!

I am going to Maui and Big Island this Oct, really looking forward to it!

Go to Pearl Harbour to see the sink ships.
Try out foods @ shrimp truck on the road, very delicious.
Swap meet is cool but only two or three times a week when there is no event happened at the Stadium, so check schedule before you go.
Hike the Diamond Head and you can see view of Waikiki from there.  
Didn't see anyone doing segway over there, I would rent a care to drive around the whole Island. Like other lyk said, there are lots of beautiful beaches in Ohau and have less people.

Dear All LYK,

My wife is not water friendly, so probably stick with snorkeling. I like to try scruba though.

the reason doing segway is it could be better than siting in the tour bus. Don't think in the near future will purchase one for daily use.

Should i go for : Quantity > Quality ?

Can i go snorkeling in turtle bay ? or any other place better than Hanauma Bay

I will be only have 4 whole days in hawaii, and thinking to spend :
Friday ~ arrive hawaii at 9pm
Saturday ~ segway and luau
Sunday ~ going shopping : swap meet + mall
Monday ~ sight seeing ( taking bus ) museum, park, aquriam. zoo
Tuesday ~ wedding ( whole day )
Wednesday ~ snorkeling + some hiking
Thursday ~ flight at 1pm to Vancouver

Does the shrimp truck has anything else to eat except shrimp, my wife is allegic to it.

Totori : will you be doing any water sport? which one would u prefer disposable camera or waterproof camera ?

I bought those disposable underwater cameras from London Drugs. Not really good quality but it's just for fun!
