I got that kind of phone call yesterday.  When I picked it up, and heard the voice, I immediate know.. it is a lady voice, and you can hear the background is quite noisy.
Then after I "Hi" and she asked me "do you speak mandarine?".  I spoke english to her "What?  Hello?  what are you talking about? "  "I don't understnad you".
then she hung up.


Next time, I will pretend I speak indian languages. lol...
or say "Hi.. it is Police office.  What can I help you? ".  hahahah

I had a same situation before, an unknown caller called my cell, i said hello and she she said "請問有沒有人說中文?", then i just keep saying hello hello and then she hang up.

and the fxxking fido is so annoying now.. they outsource some kind of quality survey & promotion to another company.. that company keeps calling me like 5 times a day. until I was so annoyed and yelled at them saying "if you call again, I will cancel the service & call police".  then they stop.

警方呼籲接到這類電話的市民，應立即掛線，並以*57免費追蹤服務找出對方電話號碼，然後報警處理。

溫哥華市警局發言人麥吉尼斯(Jana McGuinness)表示，自從上月27日以來，溫市發生超過35宗商戶遭電話恐嚇勒索的案件。目標皆為亞裔商家。

幾乎所有的恐嚇電話，皆是由一名說普通話的男子打出。該男子稱自己的「兄弟有難」，需要現金。他要求商戶提供5000至2萬元的現金，按照他的指示匯入一個帳戶。不過截至目前為止，沒有受害人匯出現金。

I got the "你會說中文嗎？" call too. But whenever I get those calls I always pretend to speak only english.

I got this "你會說中文嗎？" call just a min ago!!!
I just keep saying "excuse me" and "hello" and she hang up...
