Questions on Mitsubishi Eslipse and Toyota Celica

Hello everyone, I need some advice on getting a 2nd hand car.

I am interested in 2nd generation Eclipse



and 6th generation Celica



Their appearances completlely attracted my attenetion.  However, both cars are around 10 years old, and that menas there could be a lot of problems.  

since I am a complete idlot on fixing cars, may i know any LYK has driven or own these cars before?  And do you have a lot of major/minor problems with them?  And how's the gas consumption?   Please give me some advises!  And does it worth the price to rebuild an engine?

I know the easiest solution is to get a new car, but i don't like any of the recent car's appearnance.  Indeed more and more japanese cars become to look more like American cars.

well since you got the picture from Wiki, I assum that you know the Eclipse was also sold as Eagle Talon. Some model of Eclipse has a Chrysler engine, some has Mitsubishi.

I am driving a used 96 Celica GTS for three years, I don't find any problem So far, I changed brake and clutch, 400-450 kms for a full tank it depand on how u drive.

00-03 GTS are super common .. and TOO riced ar ma ..

94/95 Celica was the best looking one ( IMO )   I almost bought one back then .. but ..  too slow ..      and Toyota didn't bring thr All Trac back then ...   (he he ..  those date, I wanted speed ..  )

Plus, their price are cheap now ..  

As long as you are not buying those  grey import stupid JDM celica ..  then you should be fine ..  ( unless a good GT4 .. )


Oh .. forgot about Talon tim ..  TALON ..   famous at hving lots of problem ... even you can find a talon turbo for just couple thousand ..  but easy to spend couple thousand to fix it too ..

And indeed, for the 6th generation celica, is that made in Japan or in US?

yes, it's 10 years, but it's the best looking celica for me, perhaps i m a big fan of supra.  But the best thing is Celica does not have turbo, so that it would save a lof fixing trouble.

Also, it seems like there is no reply for eclipse.  I guess.....not many drivers own this car before?

By the way, we would be the best place to look for a high quality 2nd car?  Recently i only use craiglist....but I want to know is there any avenue?  And have anyone tried to finance a 2nd car?

JDM means Japan Domestic Market...

i think most celica are made in japan, even the 00-03 they cost so much more than matrix because of that...

i would say u can find a decent celica easier than a eagle talon / eclipse! DSM (talon / eclipse) always have problem and that car rusts pretty bad, no bodyman likes it...

if u get the turbo one, crank walk is an issue....u will need new motor...

For ease of maintenance and durability. The Celica would be a good choice.

Another option could be Toyota MR2, now you can import the Spyder from US (I have a friend sold his SC MR2 for the Sypder, he mentioned about something about putting "Lotus" ECU there). They are basically a 2-seater with a Corolla engine.. but lots of modding potential there.

yeah, seems like everyone is recommending the celica instead of the eclipse.  I guess i would go for the celica then..  Thank you everyone.
