Front brake pads

2003年 4氣缸 本田accord 2.4, 自動波, 4-door, 73000km, 全市內駕駛

由新買到現在, 只換engine oil, air filter, rear brake pads once, & brake fluid flush/replace once, 4 new all season tires

由新買到現在, 都沒換過前brake pads

奇怪﹐front brake pads可以這麼耐用嗎? 雖然拖波拖到七彩

front brake pads可以這麼耐用嗎?

自動波,
拖波拖到七彩 ????        How to do that ??

Auto can down shift la.. just kill the tranny much faster caz it's not meant to do it anyways.

OE pads can last 50000km at least, at least my OE still have 50% left when I switched to Hawks at about 50000km.

73k for one set of front pad and all city driving seems to be high but it depend on how you brake.  If you always brake lightly, then the brake force may be distributed to the back more and wear out your rears first.

yup, if u are always easy on ur brake, front doesn't wear out that quick as initial braking is applied to rear (like motorcycle), then after a certain point it will go to the front....

so if you always go high speed and hard brake, i could have finished a set of front pad during a track day while rear still have 70%...yes, they were both brand new!

looks like u are missing out a lot of service, coolant, cabin / pollen filter, brake fluid flush should be more than once, automatic transmission fluid flush (well, honda says do it at 96k, drain and refill 3 times then finish it up with a 4th drain and fill ~ everytime has to go out for a 3 to 5km test drive; wonder who really does that and how much they are going to charge u lol; because of that, why not change it every 24k instead? it's still going to be doing it 4 times by 96k, it will probably be "cleaner" to do it at 24k interval...only cost u maybe like extra $6x?) etc etc

how often do we do the coolant?(last minute wise)
*r we talking about a coolant flush?

hmm, they said the transmission fluid and engine coolant can be doing at the same time (at 96,000km)
is it acceptable?

i have a feeling that the Original Equipped front brake pads will last 96000km...
i think thats a record

*i'm not sure if its the automotive technology:
nowadays, 1) sparkplugs last like forever 176,000km
2) engine oil service possibily last from 8000km up to 16000 km
3) etc......
compare to old days, things changed.
consumers can now save a bit of time & money, which is good.

coolant would still be recommanded to be at 48k interval, have seen radiator clogged due to dirty coolant ~ yes, their structure last longer than before but it will still get dirty and need change...u can choose to change coolant every 48k, keep the engine at optimal operating temp (longer engine life) or let the rad clog and things follow after...

u can also choose to change ur transmission fluid at 96k, but that's why lots of ppl kept saying honda's transmission are weak; to me it's pretty fine and need lots of lubrication by good condition fluid...

96k for automatic with city driving is a record, but make sure u get them inspected and dun go metal to metal; have seen ppl has only changed brake pad once up to 240k, and he is still on his original clutch like shutterbug...lol...but more than 80% chance ppl dun have that "luck"...

spark plug last till 176k, but honda would charge u to take them out and clean it ~ cuz carbon gets build up and it's hard for the coil, once again u can choose to replace them at 176k and possibly coil will go before that (and mechanic will recommand u might as well do the plug)....

engine oil service with regular mineral oil is still at 8k for the longest, when they step up to synthetic they put down 16k to 25k ~ yes synthetic last longer during the same period but it would break down THEN burn after a certain period / mileage; it's funny that BMW gives u a new bottle of engine oil in your trunk because they can never last till 25k without topping ~ unless u never check, even coolant would have needed to be top up before 20k so again, it depends on how u believe the "theory"....

example: did an oil change for my friend co-worker's 08 civic sedan, c 9 driven, at 5400km the engine is getting noisy and oil is BLACK; friend noticed that cuz i told him to do his first oil change at 3xxxkm and he has 12k now (with regular mineral oil change 4 times), he can tell the diff right the way when another one is "poor maintained"....u just have to experience that, when the oil is changed more often and u can tell a diff, that means the old oil is already towards the end of its life ~ why makes everything to the last min and wears everything out? just like u can always wait till last min for brake job / tires change, ur safety and if anything goes wrong ~ accident, will cost u big bucks!

Philip is right, I would stay away from down shifting if possible. I remember a mechanic friend once told me: "would you rather do a brake job or a clutch job?"

depends on what kinda downshifting u are doing, i know a friend who has a 300whp WRX and he has only gone thru one set of brake pad + still on his stock clutch; his downshift is soooo smooth, yet no riding lol

another friend with a light mod 2.5RS, also drive soooo smooth yet his clutch was gone at 80k...
