I wonder for every foot that is found, how many are not found. And how many non-running shoes sunk to the bottom of the ocean because of the lack of buoyance of the shoes.

'A sick joke': Latest severed foot discovery was a hoax

CAMPBELL RIVER (NEWS1130) - The RCMP has launched an investigation into yesterday's discovery of a 6th 'severed foot', near Campbell River, which has now been determined to be a hoax.

The B.C. Coroner's Service (BCCS) says it has confirmed the remains found in a running shoe at Tyee Spit are not human. The Coroner's Service says a forensic pathologist and an anthropologist have determined a skeletonised animal paw was inserted into the shoe with a sock, and packed with dried seaweed.

The BCCS calls the hoax 'disrespectful to the families of missing persons' and says it is no longer investigating the incident. They're also chiding the unknown hoaxster(s) for wasting valuable investigative time and resources that could be spent on the main investigations, which is still continuing.

RCMP Constable Annie Linteau says they're looking for the person involved in what they call 'a sick joke'. "It's unbelievable that someone would take the time to something like this..that's someone's loved one we're talking about here." If a suspect is caught, RCMP will pursue public mischief and possibly animal cruelty charges.

RCMP Inspector Brendan FitzPatrick says the insensitivity shown to the families and the victims involved is unbelievable. "Time was taken to ensure that the remains were set up to closely resemble human remains. While it is a relief that there was a not a human victim involved, the fact somebody would perpetrate a hoax such as this is disturbing."

【明報專訊】大溫出現第7隻人腳！最新被發現的斷肢，就在列治文的河邊，據悉該人腳穿的是New Balance球鞋，與今年5月發現的一隻女腳為同一牌子。

昨日發現人腳的是一對夫婦，一名婦人Diane Johnston昨午經過列市南端附近的河堤，赫然發現一隻疑似人腳物體。她不敢自己下去看，回家叫了丈夫Ken，過了數個小時後一起再到現場。

Johnston說：「此時，我們看到那隻球鞋半浮在水，夾在一些木頭中，鞋筒中突出一隻襪子。」她大著膽子爬下去，拿起「它」，隨即丟上岸邊。丈夫隨手撿起一根木，插了一下，感覺到鞋子裡面「有些東西」，兩人便不敢再看，立即報警。

自從去年8月在溫哥華島對開的Jedidah Island發現第一隻連鞋的人腳後，接連有人腳浮上卑詩岸邊，而較早前也在列治文附近的Mitchell Island對開的岸邊，發現一隻女裝New Balance球鞋的斷腳，而昨日發現的人腳，穿的也是New Balance，不知道是否有關連。據悉騎警將會在今日公布更多資料。
