Having a wedding planner is a good thing only you choose the right person, I have seen so many planner-wannabes they do not have experience assisting thecouple before or on the big day, which really piss the couples off. But of course a pro one can be a good helper so that a couple won't have worry about anything, so they can simply relax and enjoy.

A good one should be able to handle any emergency situation. Also one should be experienced in communicating with the couple and the vendors and understand the basics how wedding vendors work, I find this so important because I have seen many non-pros they do silly things like
1.  Forget to update vendors/couple when there are changes
2.  wearing bright color or beach outfit on the day,
3.  no idea where they should stand and they keep on walking in front of the video/camera/headtable

Above are just what I could observe as a third person but then what a planner could do for you of cuz will depends on the $$$. Do you need someone who speaks your language or doesn't matter? I don't have a big list of good planners, but if you wanna know the black list you are welcome to pm me, I am one of those who can see how planners work behind the couple lol

I was gonna hire a planner at first, even paid deposit already, but turn out her attitude was so bad, and very "inch", always 教訓 me, and give me lessons through her emails!  so at the end, my hubby couldn't stand her, and we didn't use her.  Luckily my girl friends was very helpful and helped me through the whole wedding.  I would not recommend her at all.  But I have a friend that used this lady called Jessica, and she said she was really good.

I knew which one you're talking about =P, I guess as a wedding planner one should not be over self centered, brides do have their own requests and ideas.

Hi manman530, yeah the one I hired was really bad attitude, too over centred.  First time, she asked me to come out to discuss the wedding details, so we went to bbt, we both order a drink, so after finish discussing, she said lets get the bill, so I told the server to bring the bill, and when the bill arrived, she just sat there with no action or attempt to pay for her drink, WHICH IS FINE, bcuz I dun mind treating her for a bbt, but I was just a little in shock, bcuz her attitude was 俸旨 gum, she just sat there with no actions or attempt to pay for her own drinks at all!!!  So end up I paid for her drinks, this is only first time meeting her.  HOw rude!  I just don't like ppl like that!  So during our first conversation, we discussed about some details of my wedding, and how I would like my wedding to be like, she keeps on banning my idea, and said I am too 天真, the way I think its too naive, in reality, things can't happen so ideally.  The reason I hired her is to assist me, help me; but not to lesson me, and giving me such ****ty attitude.  But, whatever, since I already gave the deposit, so I thought I might as well just stick with her.  But after a month or so, she emailed me and my husband, and ask us to give her the approximate run down of our wedding day schedule, and all the names of our family, wedding helpers, sisters n brothers and their contacts.  So my hubby emailed her with all the info very promptly.  And for our wedding, we actually have a very good friend that was helping us in a lot of the things, but the reason why I hired a wedding planner, was bcuz I don't want to give too much pressure to my friend, and let her do all the things, so that's why I hired the wedding planner and my friend can work together with the wedding planner on my wedding day.  So on our wedding, we will be very busy, and my friend said she will be helping us deal with all the last minutes problems or inquiries that anyone might have.  So this crazy wedding planner lady emailed my hubby back, and she wrote in RED COLOR and UPPER case, and yell at my hubby, she was like "what do you mean by that? I AM IN CHARGE, NOT SOMEONE ELSE. They can work with me including the MCs and follow my instructions, but it’s needed to be clear – I’m in charge. If you are not sure about that, we need to talk." and of course she wrote many more stuff, but my hubby thought she was extremely rude, first typing all in red and upper case, and then yelling at her customers.  How rude, so after the emailed, my hubby emailed her back and expressed his feel, how he thinks she shouldnt be so rude, and told her we would like to think about this service again, whether we wanted her to be in our wedding.  Of course, this time she emailed back very nicely and apologize for her rude behavior, but after all these things, we decided not to use her, so we terminated the contract.

However, my friend hired another wedding planner on her wedding day, she is really good, and speaks Cantonese too, her name is Jessica Yuen ,Phone: 778.891.5551 her website is www.simplyimpressive.ca  You can try calling her and talk to her and see if you like it first.

Creme de la Creme:  Oh no, I feel sorry for you.  I encountered a very pleasant 1-hour complimentary initial wedding meeting that was offered by a wedding planner named Monica Tam.  She speaks Cantonese, English and Mandarin as well, I believe.  Not only she is very professional and polite, she also asked me about my hobbies and passion, so that she can implement me & my fiance's passion and personality into the wedding for personal unique touches. I really like that!

p.s* If my memory is correct, I believe she is a certified wedding planner, and so is her husband.  They work side by side together, so for the market price that 1 wedding coordinator charges out there, you're getting a husband & wife team to work for you.  Check out www.blueprintforlove.ca, she really rocks!

Just wondering why do you think you need a wedding planner to help plan your wedding? Are you invite more than 400, 500+ guest to your wedding? Or wanting to have a 2-3 days banquet? In that case you may need one, otherwise, IMHO the money you pay your wedding planner could have used on your own instead e.g nicer wedding dress, better makeup artist, videographer or photographer...

I've hired a day-of wedding planner / coordinator for my wedding and she has been EXTREMELY helpful. I am having a small wedding, but I don't wanna be bothered by any logistical issues on the day of my wedding. I also want my guests and family members to have a good time and so I don't wanna bother them with my wedding details. This is why I hired a wedding planner just for that day (but my wedding planner is great and so she is also giving me referrals for vendors and helping me plan things before the big day, so that's another bonus of having a wedding planner).

If you enjoy planning wedding by yourself, sure... of course you don't really need to have a wedding planner.  If not, there are really lots to think about.  From venues to different types of vendors, all the detailed logistics and rundown, wedding color & theme if you have one...Given that I have a full-time job and a life to run, which I believe most of us do, it's really difficult to squeeze in the extra time during weeknights or weekends to plan.

In addition, not only does the wedding planner save me time and stress, often times, they are able to negotiate discounts for me as well.  When I'm able to save 10% here, 20% there... it really adds up.
