I was longing to see the 61 points would be more widely spread distributed. Very disappointingly, it's more like a dense version of the original diamond area. It might be good for limited photography fields only. Just my 2 cents. ;b

in the old days when there was only 1 focus point
you focus that point on the spot you want and reframe your shot
right?

so by relying on the whatever 61 focus points

Surprisingly, with those 61 points, I still need to act as the olden days- focus and recompose. That's what really amaze me and why my comment came from. LOL

by automating every single function in the camera the only thing people can talk about now is composition. But composition itself is so overrated or overly discussed. That's why people always make fun of composition analysis by drawing all those crazy lines and triangles.

hmmm...... I got your points,  BUT... (correct me if I was mistaken too)

(1) we were dealing with MF lenses in the old days,  and now most of us are spoilt with AF.
(2) old cameras use pentaprism,  whereas new cameras use pentamirror to cut cost.   The latter is FAR INFERIOR thus focusing manually is very difficult under dim light.
(3) AF is faster than MF in most cases, esp in sport
(4) More focusing points means focusing is more dead-on,  innit ?

if there's only one point you know exactly which point it would be
there's absolutely no confusion there

with 61 points
the camera pretty much "composes" the photo for you
all you need is a donkey pressing the shutter button


yes AF is fast
but only if the point of focus is very obvious
say you are shooting a grid of coca cola bottles
i have no idea which bottle the camera would focus on
it might hunt for years
