In my book, an apology looks like a meaningful remorse tendered by prime ministers and leaders from the 1970s until *today*. It includes war reparations in the trillions. It includes no blocking of media for people in Japan who want to know both the sides, even the emotional theatre of China on Youtube and all over the web.
If this is not your idea of an "apology", then it's an issue with you, not with Japan. Even if Japan were to do this cosy little dance of "mutually commemorative" event, there will soon be other Dan and Zan who would want something else, according to their version of "apology".
Japan has done enough. Deal with it.
The Chinese (not you) ignorantly attack Japan on principle. That they are people who will commit atrocities, who will support their own war criminals, and whatnot. That they're an evil people. That "Japs suck".
That's where I mention the *hypocricy* of China. A country that will do what it pleases (against global norms) in its neighbors. A country that will block any perspective other than its own to keep its people in the dark ages. A country that will deflect angst from its own devastation of MILLIONS of people under the stupidest "cultural revolution" to the angst for WWII 60 years ago.
The world is not blind to that hypocrisy, and it is in that context that Tibet, Ladakh, Bhutan merit a mention. |
