Discount Tire price matches most stores (including TR and its own DiscountTireDirect)

Depends on the tire.

Say staggered 18" Michelin PSS. $1,086.00 from Tire rack subtotal. $1,098.00 from Discount Tires subtotal. If no sales tax, yeah, probably cheaper for Tire Rack. But if there is sales tax, then no way that $12 diff in sub total cost is going to cover the $6X shipping. Depending on the shop used, installation can also be more than $15.20 also.

And say there is a tire that's cheaper over @ Discount Tires than Tire Rack. Theoretical.

My main take on Discount tires is less hassle. I don't even have to put in a CC number or anything. Just pre-order, pay there once, all done. Have been extremely quick for me each time. Like, 45 minutes quick.

If I order tires to carry back up the border with no installation, i will usually order from Tire rack.

TR doesn't charge sale tax for out of state purchase.  And there is no warehouse in WA.  So it is true that you don't have to pay tax.  If the shipping cost is < WA sale tax, you save some money.

My last purchase at DiscountTire store was cheaper than TR after I price match DiscountTireDirect.

If you do not plan to declare the new tires, you better hope the weather is bad or you take a drive down to Seattle and back. It is very frequent the custom officers to flash lights on tires and feel the treads. They did it on my car twice and my friend's car as well. They can also tell by the manufacturing date on the tires as they are required to manufacturer the dates on the sidewall to indicate their lives.

Just watch out la.

Crossing border is always a test on your luck.  Once, my friend (on Nexus lane) get questioned on his few weeks old tires and got send into the office.  Lucky that her wife kept the receipt in the glove compartment.  Later on, when he walk out from the office back to his car, the same officer came over and started to question about his not-so-new-shoes.  The officer probably had a bad mood that day.

I got thoroughly searched (the car and my bags) going thru Point Roberts one time. I have Nexus card as well. According to the custom, it's just a random thing.

We had the random search once (before we have Nexus).  We even asked the reason for the search and the officer just said the computer randomly selected us.

My friend case obviously wasn't a random search, since he pin pointed to his tires.
