unless you run a turbo-charged engine, or engine that gives extremely high output per given displacement, or you run extended oil change intervals (10,000km per OCI), otherwise, synthetic oil doesn't make that much of a difference (when compared to most brand name North American certified oil that are API-SN/ILSAC-GF5 certified).
I must admit that neither of my 2 cars (including wifey's high mileage camry) runs on syn at all...just ordinary conventional motor oil only.
the main reasons why I use it on my car
- a lot quicker to reach the operating temperature, especially winter
- sound quieter/smoother
- i rev high rpm
regardless if you use syn or regular oil, change them on time, it is one of the best and cheapest thing you can do for the car in long run
my fnd a diesel mech says i should not mix syn and reg oil.
thats the only reason I didnt buy, is as cheap as reg oil. as I will mix reg and syn oil some where down the line.
some old cars just cant handle it i was told.
yrs ago I ran syn in my old volvo it sound quieter and smoother.
