Meet Vancouver's Miss B.C. contestants

Seven local beauties are representing Vancouver at the 2010 Miss BC Pageant.
Carmen Lau, Christine Qu, Cleo Brito, Dionne Ng, Kate Kendall, Neha Mohan, and Raman Sihota, whose photographs can be seen in this gallery, will compete against 50 other young women from across B.C. over the Canada Day weekend, July 2 - 4.
"During the three-day event, all contestants receive professional training in areas such as public speaking, interview skills, media relations, modeling, choreography, stage training, self -esteem development, manners, etiquette and self-defense," a press statement on behalf of the pageant stated.
"These skills will help all the contestants, whether or not they are chosen as the new Miss BC," said director Darren Storsley in the statement.
"This is not strictly a Beauty Pageant," he said.
"It will be a well-rounded, intelligent, outstanding and well spoken young lady who will win the crown, not necessarily the most beautiful girl."
The contestants compete in a private judge's interview, an on-stage interview, sportswear presentation, evening gown presentation, sponsor costume introduction and charity fundraising.
The Miss BC Pageant does its own charity fundraising as well. Last year it raised $19,000 for the Cops for Cancer Tour through the Canadian Cancer Society.
The public can attend the Miss BC competitions in person, and can also vote online in the People's Choice Award for their favourite contestant at www.missbc.ca. |
