More red light cameras coming to an intersection near you

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - More red light cameras at more intersections across B.C. are expected to be in place by early next year.  Be warned, that means more red light runners can expect tickets much quicker.

ICBC says those $167 tickets will come by mail within five days and that's compared to the 4-6 weeks it currently takes.  The corporation believes that will curb bad habits.

One man News1130 spoke with drives from Chilliwack to Vancouver every day and he's not as easy to convince.  "I always stop even if it's a green for me.  Generally, I stop and make sure there's nothing that's going to come across prior to that.  I've had some close calls, so now it's more check the defensive than the offensive."

Digital cameras are going up at 140 B.C. intersections.  The Vancouver Sun newspaper asked the Solicitor General's Office when they'd go up, but it wouldn't say when it would release locations.

guys, watch out for the speeding tickets
i have to watch out when i drive to my friends house
i hate police in vancouver chasing for speed driver

actually there are many times pedestrian crossing light already turned red but it takes forever for the car lights to even turn yellow.  When you decide to make a run for it, it turns red.

they use sensor on the road for many intersection. so if there is no car the light will take longer to change. to speed up traffic according to city website. however, i still think a good traffic pattern anyalsis is better.

whenever you see the palm..it means the traffic light can turn red anytime...this is common road sense...whether u decide to slow down..its your own decision..if you drive thru tht intersection often enough..u should be able to anticipate when the light will be changed...if you are not  familiar with the route...then you shouldnt even be driving fast in the first place and you should have no problem stopping

With enough driving experience, I think it's very easy to stop for late yellow & red, as you should  ...

With enough driving experience, I think it's very easy to stop for late yellow & red, as you should have enough distance to stop your car when it first turn from green to yellow.  In many cases, running a late yellow or red is your own decision, or you propably isn't anticipate enough as a driver.

Personally, I think red light camera is a great idea.

As for me, after driving in Seattle for the last 5+ years.  I have to say that it's much easier to drivei n Seattle than Vancouver, since we have left turn lane or signal at 90% of the intersections.

The red-light camera is back in action @ Willington and Moscrop today.

This is excellent news since in average I saw one car/week running this red light (I mean solid red) coming down the long slope.  These people need to be punished.

How many people actually intend to run a red?

Most of the time is that people are running a late yellow, and by the time they reach the white line, the light is already red. The purpose of the camera is to catch those (late) yellow light runner.

I rather they setup a system to catch those who are doing illegal u-turn in intersections.
