Vancouver-area housing starts soared 92 per cent last month

A federal agency says Vancouver-area housing starts rose 92 per cent in September to 1,644. The Metro area drove a 91 per cent province-wide gain that was Canada's biggest.

The news from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation comes a day after figures showing local residential building permits are also sharply higher. Nationally, the rate of urban housing starts fell about three per cent due to a drop in single-family home construction.
