i went back to hk for a month and a half..
we bought a stroller to HK just in case..but we only used it twice as it was too 麻煩 and heavy to lug around when not in use
if you really want to bring a stroller along, i would suggest to get an inexpensive, lightweight stroller..but definitely not umbrella as your baby's head control and neck muscles are not strong enough yet. the one i got was the avalon stroller (about $35) from zellers. It's inexpensive enough that if it gets lost or damaged in the flight it won't be such a problem. Please note that a lot of strollers get damaged on the plane because they throw it into the luggage area right before boarding. During the flight, the strollers are flung around and when you get them back, they are quite dirty and sometimes damaged by fallen luggage. I saw a couple of other parents using the same stroller as me..and it survived the flight quite well.
IMO, the stroller is only good to use in the airport when you are waiting for your plane..other than that, i would suggest you to use a sling or a baby carrier. we used a carrier for 99% of the time and it made travelling in HK so much easier. You can use the escalators and the stairs, rather than having to find an elevator. Although this will mean you have to carry your diaper bag around. We stuffed all of baby's stuff into a backpack..and carried baby in front and the backpack in the back.
Another benefit of carrying the baby around instead of a stroller is that it is safer. A lot of people smoke in HK and i was worried that if he was in a stroller, he will get all the fumes and all the cigarette dust/butts in his face. If you are carrying the baby, you can have the baby face inward and you won't have to worry about people's cigarettes and dust on the ground getting into baby's face. |
