VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Hockey's holy grail wasn't in the cards for the Canucks this year, But there were some significant accomplishments acknowledged at the NHL Awards ceremony in Las Vegas last night.

Most of the local fans News1130 spoke with are relieved to be talking about the game, the players, and their skills again. For one night, no one talked about the riot that became the story before Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final was even over.

"It was good to be able to see those guys go up there," he says. "It wasn't even discussed once during the awards show, so in a way, it did take it all away. It put it back on the emphasis of the players."

Another fan agrees saying it's been tough to watch a team's exhilarating journey be totally eclipsed by riot. "I think it acknowledges them for the good season they had; they won all kinds of awards during the season -- they haven't done that for a long time."

"It's well-deserved," he adds. "They should have won the Stanley Cup, but they didn't."

Ryan Kesler was named league's top defensive forward, picking up the Selke Trophy. The Ted Lindsay Award as NHL MVP, according to the players. GM of the Year goes to the Canucks' very own Mike Gillis.
