VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - While the price of gas will go up in BC Friday because of the Carbon Tax, a new study slams the idea that gas prices always go up when long weekends roll around.
According to the study from gas analysts MJ Ervin and Associates it's a common misconception.
The company looked at 5 years of long weekend data and corresponding gas prices and found prices changes approaching long weekends were no bigger than price changes during non-holiday weekends.
Michael Ervin with the firm adds, in his opinion, we could see a slight jump, but right now gas prices across North America are relatively stable. "It's hard to say how these myths start, but I think once they take route, it's very difficult to convince people otherwise."
He says a change in gas prices is typically caused by underlying wholesale prices. |
