VANCOUVER ISLAND (NEWS1130) - Conservation officers with Parks Canada have killed a cougar in Pacific Rim National Park.
It's the park where an 18-month-old was attacked last month, but the park superintendent Dave McVetty says the cougar is not the one that mauled the toddler.
"This one was quite small. This was a small male. The other one from the incident a few weeks ago was quite a bit larger," he explains.
But he says this one was posing a safety hazard and was killed because it was prowling around homes and park visitors.
"The cougar was going back and forth between different properties around Cox Bay. The park boundary bisects the beach there. They were able to track it to a private residence where it was in the process of killing a household cat."
The Kennedy Lake day use area remains closed because other cougars, bears, and wolves have been seen nearby. |
