My thought:
I trust that your auntie didn't intend to cheat in the first place. So in other words, it's either her octopus card malfunctioned or the entrance machine malfunctioned. No matter in either case, it's surely MTR's responsibility (cuz octopus card is MTR's asset). Your auntie shouldn't pay them at the first time but to ask them to give her evidence, such as to check her card see if there was transaction, and why the entrance gate had opened if she didn't "beep" her card. Any honest passenger using a proper valid octopus card would believe once the entrance gate opens means the card is being transacted and thus they pass through. MTR needs to give solid evidence to prove your auntie has violated their regulation instead of just saying she did. It they can't prove, your auntie needed not to pay. Now maybe it's too late to say "don't pay them", but she might try to write them a serious complaint, saying she was actually innocent and she feels very unreasonable for what she has been treated. She may also try to report her case to media, say "fruit news", which could be powerful sometimes. |
