No matter you are flying or walking into China, you do NOT need to have a Chinese Travel Visa. I was told by a customs officer in China. When I asked the Visa Office (on Broadway Vancouver), their answer was firm and clear that I need to have the visa. Do not trust the Visa Office here. If you do not believe what I said, please phone and ask the Chinese customs (in China). I wasted my time and $ and I don't want you guys to do the same.
also, if you apply china visa with canadian passport, you can't renew your回鄉卡 when you back hk

Do they know you have both Canadian passport and 回鄉卡?
From Hong Kong's perspective, if you don't tell them you have dual citizenship, they pretend they don't know.
Recently, a lot of Hong Kongers wanted to get the $6000. So they went to the Chinese consulate to apply for their HKID card and HK passport. There is a question on the application form that asked if you have gained another citizenship.
i've seen some travel post about a hk ppl travel from london to hk by train, he has hksar passport, hkid, and 回鄉卡. no problem when entering from mongolia to china with 回鄉卡, 回鄉卡 is for hk/macau ppl to enter/exit mainland china no matter to/from which place
make sure you line up at the 中國公民 line at checkpoints

That's right. I don't expect people here believe 100% of what I said (I wouldn't either). You are recommended to contact the Customs in China (BUT NOT THE CHINESE CONSULATE IN VANC.). I am bringing this topic up here to try help people save $ and time and I am not happy that the Vancouver Chinese Consulate lied to my face so they can earn my $.
