Godo to know that Au Wing Kee is still around and consistent in terms of quality. My last visit was about 20 yrs ago after one of those Summer fireworks in English bay...can't remember the food quality anymore.
I used to go to Gum Gok Yuen in Chinatown regularly, for their Cha-Chaung low mein, but last time when I was there the food quality was poor (just last summer).
Today, I went to Lung Kee to try their Cha-Chaung Low Mein the first time: pretty decent in terms of portion and quality, except a bit salty to my taste...portion is much bigger than that of numba -nine.
I gave up on wonton noodle soups in various then famous shops in Rmd now. Examples are Jim-Jai-kee (used to be good, now ....nope); McKim (eat-in decent, take out so-so), congee noodle soup in 2 GVRD locations: both inconsistent.
Recently, I found Lung Kee on the top section of Aberdeen to be quite decent: soup is quite good; 5 wonton balls wrapped in good proportions of shrimp and pork. Price is about right (a tad on the high side, but that's ok). The only pet-peeve I have is that their noodle is slightly undercooked so it's too hard for my old/worn teeth to chew...old man needs to chew soft noodles, you know.
