SAN JOSE, CA (NEWS1130) – Patrick Marleau scored on the powerplay 13:18 into overtime to lift San Jose to a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 4, as the Sharks earned a 4-0 series sweep. Marleau’s goal came with Daniel Sedin sitting in the penalty box for boarding. Sedin was issued the penalty on a questionable call as he delivered a shoulder-to-shoudler check on Tommy Wingels, which sent him into the boards. The Canucks needed a big third period to avoid falling in regulation. San Jose led 2-1 through 40 minutes, as Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski scored first period goals for the Sharks, and Mason Raymond tallied for Vancouver. With the Canucks on the powerplay midway through the third, the Sedins teamed up to set-up Alex Burrows for a tic-tac-toe goal to tie the game. Just 1:50 later, the Canucks took their first lead of the game. Alex Edler’s point shot beat Antti Niemi, putting Vancouver ahead 3-2 with 8:58 remaining in regulation. Pavelski scored his second powerplay goal of the night to tie the game with 6:42 left, and send it to overtime. Cory Schneider made 43 saves in the loss. He will want the overtime winner back, as Marleau poked home the puck after Schneider mishandled a shot. The Canucks have now lost eight of their nine playoff games in the past two seasons after losing to the Los Angeles Kings in five games last year.
