That's why a lot of people join City as auxillary staff because it is unionized.

And government have to recruit internal first then, external.
But of course, internal staff have to pass the test in order to get the position.  If external exceed the expectation score or higher than internal staff, hiring manager will compare their personality, experiences and background to hire the best candidate.

Not sure about City of Coquitlam but I think in City of Burnaby, auxillary starting salary is $18 something... + 12% lieu or benefit.

The Economy is bad, so I thought this job fair info will be helpful for LYKs who is actively looking for job.

Nam.. it's true that in City of Burnaby, auxillary starting salary is $18 something... + 12% lieu or benefit. couple of my fds wanted to get a job there but it's really really hard. Like what you said.. it's internal first then external.. and be advise that there are people who are 'casual' status  and they are 'part of their internal'.. therefore...  it's ONLY the left over for outsiders.. and which is really really low chance lor....

just like my hospital g ma... all positings are gone by internal grabbers.... I've never seen more than 2 F/T postings for outsiders at all.....

City of Burnaby currently has quite a few opening compare to other City...

Ask your friend to be an auxillary la, if he/she is with the right department/manager, he/she will be first to be considerated when an opening comes up.

It's really up to the manager, my manager hired external staff instead of internal becuase the external staff exceed the score that she expected and plus her broad experiences. So, it's not totally hopeless gei, but just make sure you are really good if you want to apply.  My manager doesn't want to hire or keep people that are less skillful in her department, so she doesn't mind hiring external staff if he/she is good.

One tip for getting your a$$ in government field, is try your best to get public sector working experiences  Every little bit court, apparently, they preferred people who works in public sector before.

it depends on what degree one holds, he might not get 20/hour after grad nor a job at all for that matter!
