Where are the "Western Democractic" countries now?  I don't see them coming out condemning the violence on protesters?  Another example of double standard.

see?
not many people interested
people around the world (including us) only like to blame our own kinds LOL

well, every motive is inherently out of self-interest

since the red shirts have nothing to do with people here, it's kind of expected

but why would people care about speed trains in HK? it's not like people here will either ride it or pay for it.

Same over here with Republicans vs. Democrats

Lots of Chinese people and other tourists will take the highspeed train all over China and Hong Kong when they visit there.

Certainly your "out of self-interest" comment is true. Had LYK been a ethnic Thai's in Canada forum, the uproar would be huge.

That is not to say that the deaths were any less tragic. Unfortunately, there are too many demands in life that drains all of our time and energy. So when the ties are not nearly as close, we don't feel nearly as moved by the event, tragic as it may be.

The uproar with the HK high speed train is that many of us still maintain close ties with Hong Kong, be it relational (with people), cultural, or emotional. Because of these close ties, we feel ripped off ourselves when HK citizens are getting ripped off.

Certainly someone as intelligent as you are would know this?
