BETHEL, Conn. -- Some parents are complaining that a product made by Pampers is actually causing chemical burns on their children.
Pampers said its new dry max thinner technology is the company's biggest innovation in 25 years. However, one mother in Bethel said it's causing excruciating pain to her son.
"Whatever is in the diaper is damaging my son's skin," said Tammy Allen.
Touting claims of being their driest diapers ever, thanks to new revolutionary dry max technology, busy mom Tammy Allen says the Pampers Cruisers with dry max she was using on her 20-month-old son, Ethan, cause trouble.
Allen said, "It was from Easter until this Sunday he was in excruciating pain. We would change him and he would scream, kick us, scream, do anything to not be changed, because his bottom was open. He had open sores that bled."
For these same reasons, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is investigating Pampers diapers with dry max. The P & G company revamped its swaddlers and cruisers diapers with thinner, less bulky technology. The diapers are designed to lock wetness in for up to 12 hours.
However, some parents said the diapers cause severe diaper rashes and chemical burns.
Pampers launched the updated diapers in March, but added the improved diapers into packaging in 2009.
Though scarred, creams helped clear up Ethan's irritation.
Company officials said the diapers were tested extensively, and received awards for their dry max technology and support from a New York City pediatrician who doesn't have any safety concern.
Jodi Allen, general manager of Pampers, said, "We have done everything we could possibly do to ensure that this product is safe. I stand by it. It's an excellent product and I highly recommend it." |
